A challenging scenario to create problem orientation
A teaching case should be able to motivate students in applying their knowledge and skills in a real-life context. The problem orientation of a case scenario can be achieved by building up the case based on two basic rules: 1. Positioning the case in a problematic or challenging situation; and 2. Filling up the problem or challenge with details and intriguing questions that allow for multiple possible solutions or decision making.
When deciding a challenging scenario, make sure it is relevant to the learning objectives that you want the students to achieve. And it should represent a realistic and typical problem students will encounter in their future career paths. Then provide relevant background information to help students understand the complex situation more easily and better.
In the video, we explain in more detail on how to design a case around a challenging scenario.
