Presentation software in the process phase Problem
Teaching cases are always built around a challenging scenario or problematic situation. They reflect the learning objectives that are aimed to be achieved by the students through analyzing and solving them. However, case problems often contain a wealth of information and complex stakeholder relationships, and the ability to make sense of those relationships and relevant information to think critically and make informed decisions is key to problem solving. The use of visualization tools and software facilitates understanding and decision making by presenting the information in a clearer and more comprehensive way.
In the video, we list some of such software and tools.
Personal reflection
How is presentation software helpful in designing a problem or challenge for a case study?
The real-life problem or challenge is a key part to be considered when designing a case study. It needs to be able to echo the learning objectives which are in line with the students’ future career competitiveness. Thus, a case problem or challenge usually contains a lot of information that’s not straightforward or easy to process. Presentation software or tools help to address that issue.
How to design a case study with the help of a presentation software or tool?
- Choose a presentation software. (e.g., Canva, demo video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un50Bs4BvZ8 or Haiku Deck, demo video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlaioz95wZo).
- Use the following case scenario as input to present the case problem: a local family-owned snack bar specializing in street food has a loyal customer base, and its impact is getting larger: more and more new visitors are received since two months ago. The owners are now looking for market expansion opportunities. The owner calculated carefully their revenue, costs, and did some market research around the neighborhood. He’s thinking maybe open another shop in a nearby neighborhood or offer more diversified food in the current shop.
- Add the presentation as a part of complementary case study material.
